Its my baby's half-birthday--well yesterday!

Well, yesterday Luke turned six months! I can't believe how fast it has gone! He has got to be the happiest baby I've ever met (except when it's time for bed). We've had fun taking pictures of the boys together, so I thought I would post some from the last week or so.
Today it was 70 degrees, so Malachi and I ventured outside to do some yardwork after his soccer games. He drove his tractor and I filled his trailer full of pinecones and needles and he dumped it for me in the pile. We had quite a good system down, until the baby woke up :).

Ok, now for the pictures:

Spring Break!!

So Malachi's spring break this year was spent with our foster kids, Jaden and Louie. Their current foster parents had to go out of town, so they were with us for ten days. We had a blast! The last day, Louie turned 3, so we had a big party at Triple Play for him and some friends. He actually was feeling kind of sick, so he didn't have the best time, but he did like his presents and especially his cake!! It was hard to let them go home today. I miss them terribly.

Waiting for a cab...

So I have to write this down so that I don't forget it...
Thursday night Malachi and Luke spent the day with Maureen, the nanny. Maureen bought Malachi a kite that he proceed to leave at Auntie's house. I have been reading a book called "Love and Logic" and so I decided to use some of the tools in the book when he began to beg me (when we were almost home) to turn around and go get the kite. After about the tenth "no", I told him he could take a cab and go get the kite if it was that important to him. (I thought he'd say "no way" and we'd be done with it right then and there). But no, my stubborn little boy said "okay, will you call one for me?". Now he had me on the spot. "Ok", I said. So we get home and he makes me call the cab company (aka daddy with an accent). The "cab driver" tells him it will cost $30.00 round trip. He digs in his piggy bank and since he can't count money yet, thinks he has enough. When we tell him he doesn't, he wants to call the cab driver back and see if he can sell any of his toys to make up the difference. ARE YOU KIDDING ME KID, GIVE IT UP!! But no, we call back. The cab driver mysteriously knows he has a nice pair of skis and a leapster and agrees to take these in exchange for the ride. But all this is taking a long time and it is getting late. I then implement plan B and tell him that our door closes at 9pm and if he's not back, he won't be getting back in for the night. It is after 8, I tell him he won't make it. He tells me he'll stay at Aunties. I tell him he'll have to catch a bus to school. He gets some clothes for the morning. SERIOUSLY. So time goes on while he looks for his leapster... it approaches 9pm, I try telling him Auntie's door will also be closed and locked at 9pm and he'll have to sleep on her porch (thinking he's gonna bag the whole idea). Nope, he gets his tent. Chad and I are thinking "Is this kid for real?" For every idea we have, he has a response. It is getting ridiculous, but we were determined not to let him know we were bluffing when we said the cab was on the way.
So Chad tells him he'll have to wait on the porch for the cab to come. He goes outside (now normally, this kid won't even set foot outside without one of us, so we were baffled that he would do all this for a $5 kite). Now mind you, he is wearing short sleeved pajamas, no shoes, he has his school clothes for tomorrow, his skis and boots, and all the change from his piggy bank and standing on my porch shivering. He rings the doorbell and asks daddy for something, but doesn't say anything about coming in... he rings again... and again, but still doesn't come in. Finally, I tell him he has to stop ringing the doorbell because it is going to wake up the baby. He obliges and continues to stand outside. RIDICULOUS. Finally after what feels like forever, he gets tired of waiting for the cab (who has had a flat tire and is taking longer than normal) and comes in. PHEW.

Flu and Pneumonia

So things in our house have been kind of yucky this past week. Last Wednesday Malachi got the flu. By Friday, I also had the flu and was totally miserable with him. Then on Sunday, baby Luke also came down with the dang flu. Luke barely slept at all last night because he would cough and it obviously hurt so much that it made him just wimper ALL NIGHT. So today I took the boys to the doctor because Malachi's fever had returned and Luke was so congested. The good news is that Luke's ears are clear and he is moving air well even though he is congested, but the bad news is that Malachi has pneumonia! I couldn't believe it! The doctor was totally surprised too because the flu has been doing this lately where it almost goes away and then comes back and it hasn't been turning into pneumonia. Well, I guess we are lucky number one! On that happy note, here are some recent pictures of the boys together (taken before we fell ill), Luke with the animals, and Kai bowling at Jaden's birthday party last week.

Code Adam and Mardi Gras...

Well, this week was an embarassing one for me. On Thursday when Maureen brought the boys to me at work, Malachi ended up getting lost inside Fred Meyer. I was so scared that I had them call a "code Adam" which locks down all the doors and tells everyone in the store to look for the child. Turns out Malachi decided to look for Maureen and didn't see that she was right by the bank and so he just kept going... and going. Anyway, he's fine, now mommy just has to live down the fact that she lost her kid at work.

Today we met Auntie, Grayson, and Grammy for a Mardi Gras party for kids downtown. Malachi got to use a pottery wheel, paint on canvas, play some instruments, make a Mardi Gras mask, play lots of games, and even shoot a marshmallow gun. He had a blast. Afterwards, a tired mommy, Luke and Kai went to visit Nana and Papa.

Letter to Malachi

Dear Malachi,

We took you this weekend to the Winter Festival and you got to ice scate for the first time. You were a natural!

You are my sweet little five and a half year old... right now you are starting at the end of the hall and running with all your might and flinging yourself into daddy's chair. I think I am going to go gray early. You played with your cousin Grayson all day today and had lots of fun. You LOVE to be the boss, which is interesting, because so does he. You two are a matched pair. Tonight I am hoping to take you to get some Valentine's Day cards for the kids in your class. I am thinking you need a little "mommy time". You are a little wild and sometimes I think I am going to go crazy, but I still remember holding your sweet little face in my arms all those nights when you were a tiny baby. In the time it has taken me to write this much, you have found a back massager and are now massaging my back, arms, head, and feet. What a sweet and caring boy I have raised. You are now reading over my shoulder.
I love you sweet little Malachi!
